Senator Ron Barber, Grand Marshall for Buddy Walk 2013
2013 Buddy Walk
What an amazing event! This year’s Tucson Buddy Walk was filled with wonderful families, incredible volunteers, great entertainment and food! Geoff Gonzales graciously volunteered to be our Master of Ceremonies this year and did a wonderful job. A special thank you to this year’s Grand Marshal, Congressman Ron Barber for his time and for leading the Buddy Walk! He spent time talking with families, the Cienega High School Junior ROTC unit and community members. Sharon Callaway, Board Member and self-advocate introduced Congressman Barber as they have known each other for over 20 years. The success of the Tucson Buddy Walk could not have been possible without the willingness of the volunteers and the dedication from the steering committee.
Thank you to the generous sponsors for their support and for helping make the Tucson Buddy Walk a successful fundraiser for SANDS and its continuation of community support/programs for the benefit of individuals with Down syndrome.
We had the opportunity to survey many of our attendees and here is a short analysis of some of the responses:
86% of responders rated the location (Reid Park DeMeester Band Shell) as (very good or extremely good).
80% of responders rated their satisfaction of the event as (extremely satisfied, moderately satisfied or slightly satisfied).
79% of responders rated the information that exhibitors provided as (extremely satisfied, moderately satisfied or slightly satisfied).
88% of responders were (extremely satisfied, moderately satisfied or slightly satisfied) with the activities that were provided for kids.
82% of responders answered (A great deal of value, A lot of value or A moderate amount of value) to “How much value for the money was the 12th Annual Buddy Walk.
Almost 90% of responders said that they would recommend future Buddy Walks to a friend.
There are several areas that we have already worked on to improve for 2014: the sound from the stage was too loud, T-shirt order deadlines and directions need to be clearly communicated, walk time should be moved up and schedule of events needs to be made available on the web site and at the venue. On the Firstgiving.com web site we were able to raise more money than any other Tucson Buddy Walk in history! That’s a great testament to our families who were able to set aside some time to set up a fund-raising page and send it out to their families, friends, supporters and co-workers. Our top 14 fundraising families were able to raise over $18,700 and earned themselves a gift card from $25 to $400 in value.

We would like to thank everyone for coming out and being a part of this year’s 11th Annual Tucson Buddy Walk! We are in great appreciation of our sponsors. With your help and generosity, SANDS is able to con-tinue our mission to give back to the Down syndrome community and to promote public awareness.
Thank you to all the volunteers for your hard work. Without your help, many areas would not function properly and participants would have missed out on all the fun!
Thanks to the exhibitors for coming out and offering their services. The information you provided was very helpful to a lot of people.
A big thank you to Eegee’s, A La Carte Rentals, and Jump Maxx for once again donating a portion of their services to us. And to Awards to Go, for doing the T-shirts.
We would like to say a special thanks to those of you who helped plan this year’s event. It has been fabulous and great to work with you.
And of course the biggest thanks of all go to all the families that raised pledges! Your efforts are what make The Tucson Buddy Walk successful.
